Description
If I try to add an OGR VRT layer (e.g. points.vrt, in attachment), the Open window filters it. Then after clicking on the Open button an error occurs:
Error opening file points.vrt. Additional information: The file points.vrt is in a not recognized format.
So my question is: if the OGR VRT format is not supported by gvSIG (yet), why is filtered in the Open window of the Add layer dialog?

VRT format can be vector and also raster. The one provided by Antonio is vector, the one I attach is raster (in file vrt-raster.zip) but none of them can be opened with gvSIG 2.1.0 BN 2216. It is shown in the dialog because the GDAL library should open it. I am reassigning this ticket to Nacho.

As Juan Lucas says, the vrt file can be raster
http://www.gdal.org/gdal_vrttut.html
or vectorial
http://www.gdal.org/ogr/drv_vrt.html
Now gvSIG just support the first one, but there was a bug in the code and the some files could not be read. I've commited a patch to solve this problem.

I've just tried both VRT files in BN2217 and they don't work yet. In detail, if I try to open the GDAL VRT, attached by Juan Lucas, gvSIG returns an error opening the file, so the patch seems to do not solve the issue.

Can you add the log file?
Thanks!

Here's the gvSIG.log and the gvSIG-environ.info after trying to load the GDAL VRT (raster).

Sorry, but the solution is not in the build 2217 yet. It will come out in the next build. The tag "target version" in this ticket says the number of build. I appreciate your collaboration because I am not sure that with this solution all cases work fine.

I've just tried to open both VRT files in build 2218, however the VRT format seems to be not supported anymore because it's not filtered in the Add layer --> File --> Open window, even if the file filter is set to "All supported". Just to clarify further, the VRT format is not available in the file filter drop-down list. Consider that I've made the typical installation with gvSIG-desktop-2.1.0-2218-devel-win-x86-standard-withjre.exe. Consequently I have to reopen the ticket, sorry.

I test it in Linux (Ubuntu) and I can open raster VRT files (with "All supported" or "GDAL Raster File").

It should be resolved for the build 2220. Please, reopen if you find any problem.

I can confirm that GDAL VRT is working in build 2220 on Windows too, thanks. Instead, OGR VRT (see the subject of this ticket) is not a recognized format yet. So, IMHO this ticket should remain open (it's solved at 50%), until OGR VRT is working fine too.

Hi Antonio,
Thank you for your testing. I know that it's a shame but for the moment gvSIG does not support OGR, neither supports VRT format. We know that it's important, so we can close this ticket and open a feature request to implement this functionality. As I said above (#4), my work in this ticket was to resolv problems with WRT Raster because gvSIG does not support vectorial yet.

Ok Ignacio,
thanks again for adding the GDAL VRT support at least. So I'll open a new feature request about OGR VRT.
